Ilko Minev and the Success of His Third Novel

Ever since Ilko Minev launched his third novel in Portuguese, it has kept its place as a best-seller in Brazil. In the plot of the story, the author manages to combine the stunning scenery of the Amazon and the beautiful Vitosha mountain of his native hometown, Sofia.

The story begins in the early ’90s. Oleg Hazan and his wife Alice sign up for a tourist program on the beach of Lake Caracaranã. The mysterious Mount Roraima is not far from there. This is the exact place where the story of The Lost World by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle develops. The couple finds it nearly impossible to sleep in the Inn near the lake. As a result, they take a trip to the nearest town, Normandia. There, they meet Antônio Costa. He’s the owner of the Santa Virgínia farm, located on the banks of the Surumu River.

The journey of the Costa and Hazan family develops over the course of two decades in the shadow of the lost world. Ilko Minev unveils the families’ legal battle of the continuous division of the Raposa da Serra do Sol Indian reservation. Another key subject in the novel is the violent clash between the Indians and settlers that occurred during this period.

On October 11, Ilko Minev will launch his newest novel in his home country, Bulgaria. The book will soon be available in English as well.
